US Extends India-Style Waiver Allowing More Countries to Buy Russian Oil

Following India precedent, Washington issues short-term authorisation to ease global energy supply disruptions

Baghdad, Mar 13: The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of Iran-supported militias, claimed responsibility for shooting down a U.S. military refueling aircraft in western Iraq on Thursday.

In a statement, the group said it targeted the KC-135 aircraft “in defense of our country’s sovereignty and airspace,” framing the strike as a protective measure against foreign military presence.

The incident highlights escalating tensions in the region, as Iran-aligned factions in Iraq continue to assert their influence and challenge U.S. operations. Details on casualties or damage to the aircraft have not yet been disclosed, and U.S. military officials are expected to release an official response.

The claim adds to ongoing concerns over the safety of U.S. forces operating in Iraq and the broader stability of the region amid heightened activity by Iran-backed militias.
