Congress Leader Kurien Says UDF Set to Form Government in Kerala, Chennithala Likely CM

Senior Congress leader expresses confidence in UDF victory, says leadership decision rests with party high command.

KOTTAYAM: Senior Congress leader P J Kurien on Wednesday expressed strong confidence that the United Democratic Front (UDF) will return to power in Kerala following the upcoming Assembly elections, asserting that veteran leader Ramesh Chennithala is likely to take over as Chief Minister.

Speaking at a UDF convention in Thiruvalla, Kurien made the remarks in the presence of Chennithala, indicating his belief in both the alliance’s electoral prospects and leadership choice. He stated that the front is poised for victory and projected Chennithala as the face of the next government.

However, the assertion comes amid differing views within the party. Senior leaders, including Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunny Joseph, have maintained that the decision on the मुख्यमंत्री post will be taken by the party’s central leadership after the election results.

Kurien’s statement has added a political dimension to the campaign discourse, even as the UDF continues to project unity ahead of the polls. The Assembly elections, scheduled for April 9, are expected to witness a keen contest as the opposition seeks to unseat the incumbent government.
