CPI(M) Alleges Congress Acting as ‘Feeder Organisation’ for BJP
Left party criticises Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, questions Congress’ commitment to fight communal forces
India, March 27: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, alleging that it has effectively turned into a “feeder organisation” for the BJP while targeting the Left instead of its principal ideological opponent in poll-bound Kerala.
In a statement, the CPI(M) Politburo strongly criticised Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge for their remarks against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the party’s secular credentials. It accused the Congress of attempting to gain electoral advantage through what it termed as “provocative statements.”
The Left party said such attacks raise serious doubts about Congress’ stated position of fighting “communal-authoritarian forces.” According to the CPI(M), by focusing criticism on the Left instead of the BJP, the Congress is deviating from its core political claims.
The statement also urged the Congress leadership to reflect on the repeated defection of its leaders to the BJP across multiple states. It pointed out that several prominent BJP leaders, including ministers and parliamentarians, were once associated with the Congress, calling it evidence of a broader political shift.
Highlighting past political developments, the CPI(M) referred to instances such as leadership changes in Assam and Tripura, alleging that Congress defections have indirectly strengthened the BJP in different regions.
The party further defended the performance of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala, asserting that the state has witnessed communal harmony over the past decade, with no major incidents of communal violence. It contrasted this with earlier periods and accused the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) of engaging with divisive forces.
The CPI(M) also criticised Congress leaders for allegedly supporting the use of central agencies against opposition figures. It cited past remarks regarding actions against leaders such as Arvind Kejriwal, describing the Congress’ stance as inconsistent and opportunistic.
The statement expressed confidence that voters in Kerala would respond decisively in favour of the LDF, citing its record of governance, development, and social harmony.
The remarks come amid escalating political exchanges in Kerala ahead of elections. Rahul Gandhi recently criticised the LDF government, alleging similarities between its approach and that of the BJP. Mallikarjun Kharge also claimed the existence of a tacit understanding between the CPI(M) and the BJP in the state.
Earlier, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had accused the Congress of acting as the “B-team” of the BJP, a remark that was later defended by CPI(M) leadership as a response to sustained criticism.
