Odisha Budget 2026–27 Charts Roadmap for a ‘Viksit Odisha’, Says CM Majhi
Ambitious fiscal blueprint targets economic growth, poverty reduction, and inclusive development across Odisha
BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday described the Odisha Budget 2026–27 as a transformative blueprint aimed at fulfilling the aspirations of every citizen, rather than merely outlining revenues and expenditures.
Speaking at the ‘Ame Janiba, Ama Budget’ awareness workshop, Majhi highlighted that the state’s fiscal plan aligns with India’s broader development vision, setting ambitious long-term targets. These include raising per capita income from ₹1.8 lakh to ₹32 lakh by 2047, reducing multidimensional poverty to 5 percent, boosting women’s workforce participation to 70 percent, and increasing life expectancy beyond 80 years. The government has also pledged to eliminate anaemia and malnutrition entirely.
The Chief Minister noted that the ₹3.10 lakh crore budget marks a 7 percent increase over the previous fiscal year and introduces 31 new initiatives across sectors. He emphasized Odisha’s economic ambitions, aiming to build a $500 billion economy by 2036 and expand it to $1.5 trillion by 2047.
Highlighting key priorities, Majhi said the budget focuses on infrastructure, industrial expansion, tourism development, agriculture, education, healthcare, and women led growth. Projects such as the Bhubaneswar,Cuttack,Puri,Paradip Economic Corridor, National Waterway-5, and new port linked corridors are expected to strengthen the state’s logistics network. Tourism will also receive a boost through initiatives like the Shamuka beach project in Puri and restoration efforts at Chilika Lake.
The budget further outlines targeted measures for rural upliftment, employment generation, and addressing migration challenges. Women-centric schemes such as Subhadra, Lakhpati Didi, and the Chief Minister’s Kanya Sumangala Yojana have been expanded to enhance financial independence and social security.
Majhi announced that from April 1 to 14, awareness programmes will be conducted across the state to educate citizens about the budget provisions and gather public feedback.
Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo described the budget as people focused, stating that it has been designed to ensure benefits reach grassroots communities through greater public awareness and participation.
