Indian Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi Enters Prestigious International Hall of Fame at US Army War College
Historic recognition underscores deepening India–US defence ties and highlights India’s growing global military stature
WASHINGTON, Apr 24: In a moment of significant international recognition, Indian Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi has been inducted into the International Hall of Fame at the renowned US Army War College in Pennsylvania. The honour places him among a select group of global military leaders and marks him as only the third Indian Army Chief to receive this distinction.
General Dwivedi joins the ranks of former chiefs V K Singh and Bikram Singh, both of whom were previously conferred with this prestigious recognition. The induction highlights not only his individual contributions to military leadership but also India’s increasing prominence in global defence and strategic affairs.
During his visit to the United States, General Dwivedi engaged deeply with academic and military communities. As an alumnus of the institution, he revisited the historic campus at Carlisle Barracks, where he interacted with faculty members and international officers. His address focused on leadership evolution, professional military education, and the rapidly changing global security environment, reflecting India’s perspective on emerging geopolitical challenges.
The Army Chief also participated in high-level academic discussions and reviewed advanced research projects undertaken by scholars at the college. These engagements provided a platform for exchanging ideas on modern warfare, strategic preparedness, and collaborative security frameworks.
Earlier in the week, General Dwivedi commenced his official visit in Hawaii, where he was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at Fort Shafter, the headquarters of the United States Army Pacific. In a series of strategic meetings, he held discussions with Ronald P. Clark and other senior military leaders. The talks centred on enhancing bilateral defence cooperation and reinforcing a shared commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
Adding to his itinerary, the Army Chief undertook an aerial survey of Oahu island, gaining first-hand insights into the United States’ training infrastructure and operational readiness across multiple domains. The visit provided a deeper understanding of joint operational capabilities and potential avenues for further collaboration between the two nations.
General Dwivedi’s visit comes in the wake of recent trips by India’s other top military leaders, including Air Chief Amar Preet Singh and Navy Chief Dinesh Tripathi. These high-level engagements reflect a sustained effort to strengthen military-to-military ties between India and the United States, particularly in the context of evolving regional and global security dynamics.
The induction of General Dwivedi into the International Hall of Fame stands as a testament to India’s expanding role in shaping global defence discourse. It also reinforces the strategic partnership between the two nations, signalling continued cooperation in addressing shared challenges in an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.
