Amit Shah Appointed BJP’s Central Observer for West Bengal Legislative Party Leader Election

Party leadership names senior leaders and chief ministers as observers after BJP’s major victories in West Bengal and Assam Assembly elections.

NEW DELHI, May 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday announced key appointments for the selection of its legislative party leaders in West Bengal and Assam following the party’s strong performance in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been appointed as the BJP’s central observer for the election of the legislative party leader in West Bengal. The move comes after the party achieved a landmark victory by removing the All India Trinamool Congress from power in the state.
In Assam, BJP president and Union minister Jagat Prakash Nadda was named as the party’s central observer for the election of the legislative party leader. The BJP secured a third consecutive term in the northeastern state, strengthening its political dominance in the region.
According to an official party notification, Nayab Singh Saini, the Chief Minister of Haryana, has been appointed as co-observer for the leadership selection process in Assam.
Meanwhile, Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Minister of Odisha, has been given the responsibility of co-observer for the election process in West Bengal.
The appointments are seen as part of the BJP’s strategy to ensure a smooth and coordinated transition in leadership after its electoral success. Senior party leaders are expected to oversee discussions with newly elected MLAs before the formal announcement of the legislative party leaders in both states.
The Assembly election results declared on Monday marked a major political development, especially in West Bengal where the BJP succeeded in ending the long rule of the Trinamool Congress. In Assam, the party retained power comfortably, reinforcing its position as a dominant political force in the Northeast.
Party insiders indicated that meetings of newly elected BJP legislators in both states are likely to be held soon to formally elect their respective leaders, paving the way for government formation.
