Indian Football Clubs Push for Greater Investment and Youth Development

Domestic football ecosystem seeks stronger infrastructure and long-term planning reforms.

Kolkata: Indian football clubs and administrators renewed calls for increased investment in youth academies and infrastructure development during meetings held over the May weekend.

Club officials argued that Indian football requires long-term planning and stronger grassroots systems to compete effectively at the Asian level. Several clubs announced plans to expand youth scouting networks and training centers.

Experts highlighted the importance of improving domestic leagues, coaching standards and stadium facilities to attract larger audiences and sponsors.

Football academies across states including West Bengal, Kerala, Goa and Karnataka are witnessing rising enrollment among young players. Analysts believe growing fan engagement and digital broadcasting have improved the sport’s visibility.

The All India Football Federation is also expected to introduce new development strategies aimed at improving player pathways and professional league structures.

Sports economists believe sustained private investment will be critical for the long-term growth of Indian football.
