Jammu And Kashmir Handicraft Exports Register Positive Growth
Traditional Artisans Receive Boost Through Online Market Expansion
Srinagar, May 15: Jammu and Kashmir’s handicraft sector has recorded encouraging export growth this year, supported by increasing international demand and expanding online market access for local artisans.
Officials from the Handicrafts and Handloom Department said products including Pashmina shawls, carpets, papier-mâché items and walnut wood crafts continue to attract buyers from Europe, the Middle East and North America.
Authorities stated that digital platforms and international exhibitions have helped artisans connect directly with global customers, improving market visibility and sales opportunities.
The government has also introduced training and financial assistance programmes to support traditional craftsmen and encourage younger generations to participate in the sector.
Business leaders said improved branding and certification systems have strengthened customer trust in authentic Kashmiri products.
Artisans from Srinagar, Budgam and Baramulla expressed optimism about future business prospects, particularly ahead of upcoming tourism and festival seasons.
Officials added that export promotion measures and easier online registration systems are expected to further strengthen the handicraft economy in Jammu and Kashmir.
The sector remains one of the major employment generators in the region and continues to play an important role in preserving cultural heritage.
