NCW To Host Fourth ‘Shakti Samvaad’ In Srinagar, Spotlight On Women’s Safety And Rights
Consultation brings together state women commissions, legal experts and policymakers to discuss safety, rights, labour protections and grievance redressal mechanisms.
NEW DELHI, May 16: The National Commission for Women (NCW) will organise the fourth edition of its flagship consultation programme “Shakti Samvaad” in Srinagar on May 16 and 17, aiming to deepen coordination among state women commissions and strengthen institutional mechanisms for women’s welfare across the country.
According to an official statement issued on Saturday, the two-day event will bring together representatives of state women commissions, policymakers, legal professionals, senior government officials and law enforcement authorities for deliberations on issues related to women’s rights, protection and empowerment.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh will address the inaugural session, while NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar will lead discussions during the consultation.
The sessions are expected to cover a wide range of subjects, including assessment of state-level initiatives, examination of laws affecting women, recent judicial pronouncements by the Supreme Court and various high courts, responses to stalking-related offences, and protections available under the new labour codes.
The commission said the deliberations are intended to enhance policy coordination, strengthen grievance redressal systems, improve awareness of legal rights and ensure better implementation of women-focused welfare measures.
Describing “Shakti Samvaad” as a key outreach and coordination initiative, the NCW said the Srinagar edition reflects its continued efforts to promote collaborative policymaking and reinforce institutional support systems for women across states and Union Territories.
The event also underlines increasing participation of stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir in discussions concerning gender justice, legal access and inclusive governance, the statement noted.
The consultation will conclude with a valedictory session where participants are expected to outline recommendations and prepare a roadmap for continued engagement between the NCW and state women commissions.
As part of her Jammu and Kashmir visit, Rahatkar will also attend several programmes on May 19, including a gender sensitisation and POSH awareness initiative titled “Campus Calling” at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, a public grievance hearing, meetings with senior administrative officials, and the “Lal Ded National Award” ceremony.
