Full Statehood restoration essential to fulfil people’s mandate: Sagar
Says Struggle for restoration of J&K's Constitutional, democratic Rights will continue
Srinagar, 06 Aug: The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar Thursday said the party is geared up at every level and on every front in its efforts to safeguard the people’s interests, sentiments and their fundamental, constitutional and democratic rights.
He made these remarks while addressing a special meeting at the party headquarters.
Sagar said that with the wholehearted support, trust and participation of the people, the National Conference will continue its struggle to secure all those constitutional and democratic rights that the people of Jammu & Kashmir enjoyed under the Constitution of India. He said that the party organized peaceful protests from New Delhi to Srinagar and Jammu, as well as across all district headquarters, not only to reiterate its demand for the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir’s special constitutional position but also to remind the Union Government of its commitment to restore statehood.
On the occasion he thanked party legislators, leaders and workers for their steadfast commitment to fight for people’s rights. He also expressed dismay over reports of using force on peaceful protesters and illegal confinement of party leaders and legislators within their residences.
Sagar stated that the very purpose of holding elections remains incomplete without the restoration of statehood, as most key powers of governance continue to rest with the Lieutenant Governor appointed by New Delhi.
He said that the people of Jammu & Kashmir participated in the elections in unprecedented numbers to establish their democratically elected government because they had grown weary of an undemocratic system and bureaucratic rule. However, the continued denial of statehood has effectively resulted in a dual system of governance, leading to growing public disappointment and an erosion of trust.
Sagar said that despite challenges and administrative constraints, the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is working tirelessly, day and night, to provide maximum relief to the people, accelerate the pace of development and make the most effective use of the resources available for the welfare of the people.
