Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Stuns At Cannes Red Carpet In Elegant Blue Amit Aggarwal Couture

Bollywood icon makes elegant red carpet return alongside daughter Aaradhya Bachchan after weeks of speculation over Cannes appearance

CANNES, May 23: Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made a stunning appearance at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, walking the iconic red carpet in a dramatic sculptural blue couture gown designed by celebrated Indian designer Amit Aggarwal.

Representing L’Oréal Paris as a global ambassador for more than two decades, Aishwarya greeted photographers with a traditional namaste before posing with fellow ambassador Eva Longoria during the screening of Palme d’Or contender The Birthday Party.

The actress wore a couture creation titled “Luminara,” inspired by the concept of light in motion. The ensemble featured architectural detailing and metallic sculptural craftsmanship, reflecting themes of energy, movement and modern artistry.

She completed the look with a shimmering dupatta, loose soft curls, pink-toned makeup, signature red lipstick and diamond jewellery highlighted with blue gemstones, creating one of the festival’s most talked about fashion moments.

Later in the evening, Aishwarya changed into a pastel pink floral gown designed by Sophie Couture for the “Lights On Women’s Worth” event. The flowing outfit featured delicate floral embellishments and a sheer cape, adding a softer contrast to her earlier red carpet appearance.

The event was attended by several international personalities, including Eva Longoria, Ariana Greenblatt and Amy Jackson.

Aishwarya was accompanied by her 14-year-old daughter Aaradhya Bachchan, who drew attention in a satin red gown paired with a shimmering cape. While Aaradhya has attended Cannes with her mother in previous years, this marked one of her most prominent appearances at the international film festival.

The actress’s arrival at Cannes came after weeks of online speculation regarding her participation in this year’s event. Rumours intensified earlier this month after a promotional campaign video released by L’Oréal Paris featured ambassadors such as Alia Bhatt, Viola Davis, Eva Longoria and Helen Mirren, but did not include Aishwarya.

The omission quickly sparked discussion across Instagram and X, with fans questioning whether the actress would skip the festival for the first time in years. Responding to one such query online, L’Oréal Paris assured followers that Aishwarya “never misses” Cannes.

Aishwarya and Aaradhya were photographed departing for France from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Thursday, ending speculation surrounding her attendance.

Her Cannes appearance once again reinforced her long-standing status as one of India’s most recognised global fashion and film icons.
