NIA Conducts Raids on Banned Darul Uloom, Ex-Jamaat Chief’s Residence in Shopian
Searches Conducted at Sirajul Uloom Seminary and Ex-Jamaat Chief Shahzada Aurangzeb’s House
SRINAGAR, May 25: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday carried out search operations at two locations in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, including the premises of Darul Uloom Sirajul Uloom, which was declared an unlawful organisation last month, officials said.
According to officials, NIA teams conducted early morning raids at the seminary located in the Imam Sahib area of Shopian. The institution is known for providing both religious and modern education to a large number of students from the region.
Another team of the federal agency searched the residence of former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shahzada Aurangzeb at Molu Chitragam in Shopian district as part of the ongoing investigation, officials added.
The searches were carried out amid heightened surveillance on organisations and individuals allegedly linked to banned groups operating in the Kashmir Valley. Security personnel remained deployed in the area during the operation to maintain law and order.
Authorities, however, did not immediately disclose whether any documents, electronic devices, or other materials were seized during the raids. Further details regarding the investigation are awaited.
