Kishtwar Terror Support Network Busted, Government Employee Among Two Arrested

Major counter-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir exposes local support system allegedly aiding militants in the remote Dachan region.

JAMMU, June 20: In a significant breakthrough against militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, security agencies have dismantled an alleged terror support network operating in Kishtwar district with the arrest of two over-ground workers (OGWs), including a government employee. The operation is being viewed as a major success in the ongoing efforts to eliminate local support structures that assist terrorists in remote mountainous areas of the Union Territory.

According to senior police officials, the accused were actively involved in providing logistical assistance, shelter, communication support and movement-related information to militants operating in the Dachan belt of Kishtwar district. Investigators believe that the duo played a critical role in helping terrorist elements evade security forces and sustain their activities in the region.

The arrests were made following sustained surveillance, intelligence gathering and field verification conducted by security agencies. Police said the operation was based on credible inputs regarding the activities of certain individuals suspected of facilitating militant operations.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kishtwar stated that the arrests represent a decisive step in breaking the chain of local assistance available to terrorist organizations. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies remain committed to identifying and prosecuting every individual involved in supporting anti-national activities.

Security officials explained that modern counter-terrorism operations are no longer limited to direct encounters with armed militants. Equal attention is now being given to dismantling the ecosystem that provides support, intelligence, transportation and resources to terrorist groups.

The role of over-ground workers has become a major concern for security agencies because such individuals often operate under the guise of normal civilian life while secretly assisting militants. Their activities include providing safe houses, carrying messages, arranging supplies and facilitating movement through difficult terrain.

The Kishtwar region has witnessed several anti-terror operations in recent years due to its challenging topography and strategic location. Dense forests, high-altitude mountains and remote villages have historically been exploited by terrorist groups seeking concealment.

Officials said the latest operation sends a strong message that support networks will face the same legal consequences as armed militants. Investigators are now examining digital evidence, communication records and financial transactions to determine whether additional individuals were connected to the network.

Police have appealed to local residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities. Authorities believe community participation remains essential for maintaining peace and preventing extremist elements from regaining a foothold in the region.

The arrests come amid heightened security measures across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of major religious events and increased tourist movement during the summer season. Security agencies continue to monitor vulnerable areas and conduct regular operations aimed at maintaining law and order.

Officials reaffirmed that counter-terror efforts will continue with full intensity and that every attempt to disrupt peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir will be dealt with firmly under the law.
