Centre Launches National Digital Assessment Framework to Strengthen School Evaluations

New Delhi, Jul 30: The Union Ministry of Education has unveiled the National Digital Assessment Framework (NDAF), a technology enabled initiative designed to modernise student evaluations across schools. The framework seeks to replace traditional exam centric assessment methods with continuous learning evaluation supported by digital tools.

According to the ministry, the platform will allow schools to monitor students’ academic progress throughout the year using competency based assessments aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Teachers will receive detailed analytics to identify learning gaps and recommend personalised improvement plans.

The framework will initially be introduced in government schools across selected states before being expanded nationwide. Authorities said the digital system would integrate artificial intelligence to generate performance reports while reducing paperwork and administrative workload.

Education Minister officials stated that the initiative would encourage conceptual understanding instead of rote memorisation. Students will also gain access to digital dashboards where they can review their strengths, weaknesses and progress over time.

State education departments have been instructed to conduct teacher training programmes to ensure smooth implementation. The government has also allocated funds for upgrading digital infrastructure, particularly in rural and remote schools.

Education experts have welcomed the move, saying continuous assessment can provide a more accurate picture of student learning than annual examinations alone. However, they emphasised the need for reliable internet connectivity and adequate teacher support to ensure successful adoption.

Officials expect the framework to improve classroom engagement, strengthen learning outcomes and create a more transparent academic evaluation system.
