PM Modi Holds Bilateral Talks With UAE, Malaysia, Vietnam and Ethiopia Leaders
Discussions during the BRICS Summit covered strategic partnerships, trade, energy, critical minerals, defence and regional developments.
NEW DELHI, Sep 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held separate meetings with the leaders of the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Vietnam and Ethiopia on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, with discussions covering strategic cooperation, trade, investment, energy, food security and regional and global developments.
During his meeting with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Modi reviewed the situation in West Asia and discussed measures to further strengthen the India-UAE strategic partnership.
The Prime Minister said the two sides explored cooperation in defence, artificial intelligence, space, critical minerals, energy, food security and connectivity.
“At a time of uncertainty in West Asia, a strong India-UAE is a symbol of stability, prosperity and peace,” Modi said in a social media post.
In his talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar bin Ibrahim, Modi reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation in several areas, including trade and investment, defence and security, semiconductors, infrastructure, the digital economy, energy and fintech.
Ibrahim conveyed Malaysia’s concurrence to the establishment of an Indian Consulate General’s office in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Modi appreciated Malaysia’s continued support for strengthening ASEAN-India relations. The two leaders also exchanged views on important regional and international issues of mutual interest.
They reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Modi also met Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, with the discussions primarily focusing on bilateral trade and investment.
The MEA said the meeting provided an opportunity to review progress in relations between the two countries, which were elevated to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The leaders also discussed regional and international developments and reiterated their commitment to further deepening cooperation.
The ministry described Vietnam as a key pillar of India’s Act East Policy and an important partner in its wider engagement with Southeast Asia, noting that the relationship is built on shared civilisational links, mutual trust and understanding.
In his meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, Modi discussed measures to expand cooperation in defence, trade and other key sectors.
The MEA said the two leaders reviewed progress in economic cooperation, defence and security, and capacity building, while reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership.
The talks also built upon Modi’s visit to Addis Ababa in December last year.
The two leaders exchanged views on regional and international developments and agreed to maintain close coordination and cooperation in multilateral forums.
