AIIMS Delhi Installs India’s First Homegrown Endoscopy System with Advanced Imaging Technology
The new EP-6000 system is expected to expand advanced gastroenterology services and strengthen the use of domestically manufactured medical technology.
NEW DELHI, Sept 16: AIIMS Delhi has installed the country’s first made in India endoscopy system equipped with advanced imaging features, enhancing its capacity to provide specialised gastroenterology services, hospital authorities said on Tuesday.
The EP-6000 system was donated to the Department of Gastroenterology by Fujifilm India as a goodwill initiative and part of the company’s efforts to support patients requiring advanced medical care.
The installation also highlights the growing role of domestic manufacturing in India’s medical device sector. Fujifilm has established an endoscopy manufacturing facility in Jodhpur under the government’s Make in India initiative.
AIIMS Director Dr Nikhil Tandon said the institute welcomed the establishment of an endoscope manufacturing facility in India and highlighted the importance of adopting advanced technologies to improve patient care.
“AIIMS has a longstanding commitment to advancing patient care through the adoption of cutting edge medical technologies and clinical innovation,” Tandon said, adding that the new system would further strengthen the institute’s ability to serve patients.
Dr Pramod Garg, head of the Department of Gastroenterology, said the installation would enhance the department’s capacity to cater to a large number of patients and provide specialised endoscopic services.
Fujifilm India chief Wada San said the company remained committed to providing quality products and services in the Indian healthcare sector.
The development comes amid efforts to expand domestic production of medical devices and reduce reliance on imported equipment while improving access to advanced healthcare technologies.
The new system is expected to support AIIMS Delhi’s gastroenterology department in delivering sophisticated endoscopic procedures and strengthening specialised patient care at the premier tertiary care medical institution.
