Vice President Congratulates Veteran Actor Anant Nag on Dadasaheb Phalke Award

C P Radhakrishnan praises the veteran performer’s five-decade contribution to Indian cinema and Kannada films

NEW DELHI, Sep 16: Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Wednesday congratulated veteran actor Anant Nag after the Union Government announced that he would receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024.

In a post on X, Radhakrishnan extended his greetings to Nag and highlighted his contribution to Kannada cinema as well as Indian cinema as a whole.

The Vice President said Nag’s memorable performances and long-standing career had inspired generations of audiences and artists. He also conveyed his best wishes to the veteran actor on receiving the prestigious honour.

The government announced on Wednesday that Nag would be presented the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024, the highest recognition in Indian cinema.

Known for his work across Hindi and Kannada cinema, Nag has appeared in several acclaimed films, including Minchina Ota, Hamsageethe, Ankur and Manthan. His career spans more than five decades and includes over 250 films in multiple languages.

At 78, Nag remains a prominent figure in both cinema and theatre. His extensive body of work has established him as one of the notable performers associated with Indian film and stage traditions.

The award will be presented to Nag during the National Film Awards ceremony scheduled to be held in Kevadia, Gujarat, on September 22.

The honour recognises his extensive contribution to the Indian film industry over a career spanning several decades.
