Indian Envoy in Shanghai Joins Nanjing University Discussion on BRICS Summit
Pratik Mathur stresses the role of universities and think tanks in expanding academic exchanges and dialogue between the two countries.
BEIJING, September 16: Indian Consul General in Shanghai Pratik Mathur highlighted the growing understanding between India and China during a discussion on the outcomes of the 18th BRICS Summit at Nanjing University in Jiangsu province on Wednesday.
The discussion brought together prominent scholars from the region, including Professor Guo Shuyong of the School of International Relations, Professor Luo Xiaoxiang of the Department of History, Professor Zheng Anguang of the Institute of International Relations and Professor Hua Tao of the Centre for Sino-American Cultural Studies.
According to a post shared by the Indian Consulate in Shanghai on X, Mathur emphasised the importance of strengthening mutual understanding between India and China and highlighted the contribution of academic institutions in promoting greater cooperation.
He also pointed to the potential for expanding exchanges through Track 1.5 and Track 2.0 dialogues involving students, universities and think tanks. Such platforms can provide opportunities for academics and other stakeholders to discuss bilateral relations, regional developments and areas of mutual interest.
The discussion took place following the 18th BRICS Summit, which was held in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the summit during his visit to India.
On the sidelines of the BRICS gathering, Xi also held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting provided an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss bilateral relations as well as wider regional and international issues.
The Nanjing University interaction highlighted the role of educational and research institutions in creating additional channels for dialogue and people-to-people exchanges between India and China.
