Indian Envoy Meets Bangladesh PM’s Adviser to Strengthen Bilateral Relations
Dinesh Trivedi and Mahdi Amin discuss cooperation in education, technology, trade and people to people relations
DHAKA, Sep 17: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi on Thursday met Mahdi Amin, Adviser to Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, to discuss measures to strengthen relations and expand cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, the two sides exchanged views on ways to enhance bilateral engagement and deepen people to people contacts. Indian Deputy High Commissioner Pawan Badhe was also present.
The Indian High Commission said the discussions highlighted the longstanding links between the peoples of India and Bangladesh and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation for the mutual benefit and prosperity of both countries.
Education, technology and innovation featured prominently in the discussions. The two sides also explored greater collaboration in health, sports, culture and tourism, along with opportunities to expand business, trade and investment.
According to Bangladesh’s state run BSS news agency, Amin also raised concerns over individuals staying in India whom he described as fugitives and convicted criminals, urging the Indian envoy to ensure they could not attempt to create instability in Bangladesh.
The two sides also discussed existing challenges in bilateral relations and emphasised resolving them through dialogue and cooperation. They stressed the importance of advancing ties on the basis of mutual respect, equality, fairness and justice.
The discussions also highlighted the potential for expanded cooperation in information technology, science and innovation, reflecting a broader focus on strengthening practical engagement between the neighbouring countries.
