Rs 1,310 Crore Spent on Treatment of 7 Lakh Patients Under Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana: Mann
Punjab CM says cashless healthcare cover of up to Rs 10 lakh is helping families access treatment without financial stress
MOHALI, Sep 20: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday said the state government has spent Rs 1,310 crore on the treatment of more than seven lakh patients under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna.
Addressing a gathering at a function organised for the distribution of Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna cards, Mann said the scheme provides families with free, cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh.
He described the initiative as a major healthcare measure aimed at ensuring that people do not have to worry about the cost of medical treatment. According to Mann, beneficiaries can avail themselves of treatment at government as well as private hospitals of their choice.
The Chief Minister said the government’s objective is not limited to providing medical care but also to protect families from financial difficulties caused by illness. He stressed that healthcare should remain accessible to people irrespective of their economic background.
Mann also highlighted the role of Aam Aadmi Clinics in expanding primary healthcare services across Punjab. He said around 1,100 such clinics are currently functioning in the state and have collectively recorded nearly 5.5 crore outpatient visits.
He said several welfare programmes introduced by the state government are helping reduce household expenses. These include the Maavan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, free bus travel, regulation of private school fees, Meri Rasoi Scheme and the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna.
According to Mann, the government estimates that these initiatives together provide financial benefits of around Rs 1.82 lakh to each family annually by reducing expenditure on essential services.
The Chief Minister also announced that a three month instalment under the Maavan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna will be released on October 1.
Mann said the government was working towards building a healthier and more prosperous Punjab. He also accused the BJP-led Centre of withholding funds due to the state, while asserting that Punjab had continued its welfare and development programmes despite financial constraints.
He said the government had focused on preventing leakages and ensuring that public funds were utilised for the welfare of citizens.
