Arijit Singh Announces Nine City India Tour After Stepping Away From Playback Singing

The singer will return to the Indian concert circuit in 2027 with a stadium-scale tour celebrating two decades of his musical career.

New Delhi, October 5: Popular playback singer Arijit Singh has announced a nine city India tour for 2027, marking his return to a major live concert schedule after announcing earlier this year that he would no longer accept new playback singing assignments.

The tour, announced on Monday, will celebrate Singh’s 20 year musical journey and will take him to Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Pune, Indore and Hyderabad between January and May 2027.

The announcement comes several months after Singh surprised his fans by revealing that he was stepping away from taking on fresh playback work. His decision had prompted widespread discussion because of his long association with Hindi film music and his extensive catalogue of popular songs.

While the singer has moved away from accepting new playback assignments, music from earlier commitments has continued to appear in films. His existing work includes songs associated with projects such as Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Border 2, Ek Din, Cocktail 2 and Matrubhoomi.

The upcoming tour will therefore provide fans with an opportunity to hear Singh perform live across multiple major Indian cities. His last India tour, One Night Only – India Tour, concluded in Delhi in March 2023 after visiting Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Delhi.

Singh described the two-decade milestone as a deeply meaningful stage of his career. He said the most important part of his journey had been the listeners who gave his songs a life of their own and expressed his excitement about travelling across India to meet audiences through live performances.

The first show of the new schedule is planned for Ahmedabad on January 9, 2027. The singer will then perform in Chandigarh on January 23 and Jaipur on February 7.

The schedule continues with a Mumbai concert on February 20, followed by Bengaluru on March 13 and New Delhi on March 27. The tour will then move to Pune on April 10, Indore on May 1 and conclude in Hyderabad on May 15.

Organisers are planning the concerts on a large scale, with the production designed around stadium audiences rather than conventional indoor concert settings. The planned experience includes 360-degree spatial audio, panoramic screens, kinetic LED installations, laser displays and pyrotechnic elements.

The stage design is also expected to feature multiple levels and an extended runway, allowing Singh to move closer to different sections of the audience during performances. The production is being presented as an immersive concert experience built around both music and large-scale visual elements.

Team Innovation is producing and promoting the tour, with Kotal Solitaire presenting the event. The organisers have described the project as an effort to bring Singh’s music to audiences through a concert format designed on a larger scale than his previous India shows.

Singh’s career began gaining wider recognition after his appearance on the reality television show Fame Gurukul in 2005. Over the following years, he established himself as one of the most recognisable voices in Indian playback music.

His catalogue includes songs such as Tum Hi Ho, Agar Tum Saath Ho, Channa Mereya, Kesariya, Apna Bana Le, Chaleya, Sajni and Gehra Hua. These songs have helped establish his association with romantic music, dramatic film sequences and contemporary Hindi cinema.

The decision to stop accepting new playback assignments did not mean an immediate disappearance from the music industry. Instead, Singh has continued to remain connected with music through earlier commitments and his solo artistic interests.

His upcoming tour consequently represents a different phase of his career. Rather than appearing primarily as a playback voice attached to individual film releases, he will be taking his music directly to audiences through a nationwide live programme.

The timing of the tour also gives fans an opportunity to revisit songs from different stages of his career. A 20-year celebration allows the concerts to draw from both his early work and more recent recordings, potentially giving the performances a retrospective character.

The nine-city schedule covers several of India’s largest urban entertainment markets. Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Pune, Indore and Hyderabad together provide the tour with a broad geographical reach.

The scale of the programme also reflects the continued popularity of live music in India. Large concert tours have increasingly become an important part of the entertainment calendar, allowing established performers to build direct connections with audiences outside film releases.

For Singh, the 2027 concerts will be his most extensive India tour since his previous nationwide performances concluded in 2023. The upcoming shows will also be closely watched because they come after his announcement about changing the direction of his playback career.

With performances spread across five months, the tour will give fans in nine cities an opportunity to experience Singh’s music in person. It also marks a significant new chapter for a singer whose voice has been closely associated with some of the biggest Hindi film songs of the past two decades.
