7 Arrested in Punjab With Hand Grenade, Pistols and Over 3 Kg of Heroin
Amritsar Rural Police bust an alleged drug trafficking and arms smuggling network, with investigators probing suspected links to overseas smugglers and criminal groups.
Chandigarh, Oct 21: Punjab Police have arrested seven people and seized a hand grenade, two pistols and 3.491 kg of heroin during an operation against an alleged network involved in drug trafficking, illegal arms and explosives smuggling, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday.
The seizure was made by Amritsar Rural Police as part of an investigation aimed at dismantling the suspected network, according to the state police chief.
In a post on X, Yadav said preliminary investigations indicated that the accused were allegedly in contact with smugglers based abroad who supplied illegal weapons for distribution among criminal elements.
Cases have been registered at Chatiwind and Lopoke police stations in connection with the recovery, the DGP said.
Investigators are conducting further inquiries to identify other individuals allegedly involved in the operation and establish the network’s backward and forward linkages. The probe will focus on tracing the suspected sources of the contraband and weapons, as well as identifying their intended recipients.
Yadav reiterated that Punjab Police remained committed to taking strict action against drug trafficking, the illegal supply of firearms and explosives, and organised criminal activities.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details about the arrested individuals and the alleged network have not been disclosed.
