Amit Shah Reviews Delhi’s Security Preparedness in Meeting with Police Officials
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and senior police officials attend the meeting at Delhi Police Headquarters to discuss law enforcement priorities and ongoing investigations.
NEW DELHI, Oct 24: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday chaired a security review meeting at the Delhi Police Headquarters, assessing the law and order situation in the national capital alongside senior police officers and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The discussions are understood to have covered measures to combat drug trafficking, crack down on gangsters operating from abroad and strengthen action against crimes against women, according to police sources.
The Union Home Minister’s office confirmed the meeting in a post on X, stating that Shah had reviewed security arrangements in the presence of the Delhi chief minister and senior officials.
Shah arrived at the police headquarters on Jai Singh Road at around 3 pm. During the visit, senior officers briefed him on the force’s performance, ongoing investigations and major challenges facing law enforcement agencies, sources said.
The review comes at a time when the Delhi Police has faced criticism over allegations of excessive force against protesters during the CJP’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ march in July. The handling of demonstrations has drawn attention to policing methods and the force’s response to public gatherings.
Officials said the Home Minister’s interaction was also expected to encourage police personnel as they work to address security concerns and tackle organised crime in the capital.
The meeting reflects the government’s continued emphasis on strengthening law enforcement, disrupting criminal networks and improving public safety, particularly in areas involving narcotics and offences against women.
Shah had last visited the Delhi Police Headquarters on August 30, 2022.
