Nepalese NGO Plans India-Nepal Joint Tourism Council to Boost Cross Border Tourism
Nepalese tourism body proposes a joint platform for industry stakeholders to develop travel packages, strengthen business partnerships and attract more Indian visitors.
KATHMANDU, Oct 30: A Nepalese non-governmental organisation has proposed setting up a joint tourism council with India to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand cross border travel opportunities.
The proposed Nepal-India Tourism Council will bring together tourism specialists, travel agencies, tour operators, hotel and resort representatives, hospitality professionals and other stakeholders from the two neighbouring countries.
The initiative was announced during the ‘Nepal-India Cross Border Tourism Connect 2026’, held in Chitwan district from October 25 to 27. The three-day programme was jointly organised by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), a global NGO, and a local tourism campaign.
The event aimed to strengthen Nepal’s engagement with the Indian tourism market through collaborative travel packages, business partnerships and sustained interaction between tourism entrepreneurs.
As part of the programme, Nepalese hoteliers held discussions with Indian travel operators to explore professional partnerships and identify opportunities for cooperation, an NRNA spokesperson said.
The proposed council is expected to provide a common platform for tourism professionals from both countries to coordinate promotional activities, develop new business opportunities and encourage greater tourist movement across the border.
The initiative also seeks to strengthen Nepal’s position as a preferred destination for Indian travellers while supporting tourism-related enterprises through closer industry partnerships.
