J&K: Single male parent will also be able to take child care leave

Male Govt Employees Who Are Single Parents Now Entitled to Child Care Leave

06-04-2022: According to the order, there will be equal provision for child care leave for a female employee and a single male guardian. This change has been made by issuing SO 154 under Article 309 of the Indian Constitution.

In Jammu and Kashmir, for the care of children, like government servant women, now government employees single father will also be able to take child care leave of 730 days. The Lieutenant Governor’s administration, while amending the rules, has included the word of single male employee along with the female employee.

Single male employee is defined as unmarried, divorced or widower (whose wife has died). This change in the Child Care Leave Rules has become effective with the issuance of notification on 6th April 2022. Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner of the Department, Atal Dulloo has issued an order.

In this, there will be equal provision for child care leave of female employee and single male guardian. This change has been made by issuing SO 154 under Article 309 of the Indian Constitution. An employee taking child care leave will get 365 days full salary equal to the pay before going on leave.

For the subsequent 365 days of leave, the employee will get only 80 per cent of the last drawn salary.

Women workers can take leave six times in a year. The limit for availing leave thrice within a year has been increased to six in the case of a female employee. That is, women employees will be able to take leave six times within a year to take care of children. Leave of less than five days will not be considered in the child care category.
