Srinagar, 26-06-2022: On Sunday, suspended IPS officer Basant Rath posted on social media that he was resigning his position and hinted that he would soon enter politics and run for office from Kashmir.
Rath, who will finish two years of his suspension next month, said politics is a noble vocation in his well-known, unverified Twitter name KangriCarrier, WhatsApp status, and Instagram post.
Rath said I wish to resign from the Indian Police Service in order to be able to participate in electoral politics. He shared a copy of his resignation letter, which was addressed to J&K Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta and marked to Director General of Police Dilbag Singh and Commandant General Home Guard H K Lohia.
“Please treat this letter as my request for resignation/voluntary retirement and handle it accordingly,” he wrote in his letter dated June 25 in order to leave the Indian Police Service so that he may take part in electoral politics.
Rath stated If I ever join a political party, it will be the BJP in a previous post that was published about seven hours ago. If I ever run for office, I’ll represent Kashmir. I won’t enter politics until after March 6, 2024, if ever.
The officer did not return calls or texts, thus repeated attempts to contact them were unsuccessful.
