At a protest against an encroachment drive, Mehbooba Mufti was detained by Delhi police
"If we can't go to Parliament, I wonder where we should go then. Does the government want us to get our grievances redressed at the United Nations," Mehbooba asked.
08-02-223 : Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the PDP, was prevented from march to Parliament on Wednesday in protest of the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in Jammu and Kashmir due to police intervention. Mehbooba intended to march from Railway Bhawan to Parliament, where she hoped to tell opposition parties about the “bulldozer strategy” of the Jammu and Kashmir administration, in the presence of several politicians.
Police detained the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir before escorting her and party supporters to Jantar Mantar. The protesters dispersed after leaving Jantar Mantar.
“We had gone to inform the public, opposition parties, and BJP members about the suffering that the general populace in Jammu and Kashmir was experiencing.”
“I wonder where we should go in such case if we are unable to visit Parliament. Will the government support our efforts to get our complaints heard by the UN? “Mehboob asked.
The absence of the rule of law is evident in Jammu and Kashmir and “We travelled great distances to speak passionately in Delhi. But it seems that here also the voice of the general public is muzzled,” she said.
The PDP and other Jammu and Kashmir political parties have criticised the anti-encroachment campaign and urged the administration to put an end to it. They claimed that the poor are experiencing the impacts.
