Rahul Gandhi to File Appeal in Gujarat Court Against Defamation Conviction

02-04-2023 : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to file an appeal on Monday before a court in Surat, Gujarat against his conviction in a criminal defamation case. He is expected to be present in the sessions court during the plea filing, accompanied by senior state and national Congress leaders. Gandhi was sentenced to two years in jail by the Chief Judicial Magistrate HH Varma on March 23, for his Modi surname remarks in a 2019 defamation case.

The court granted him bail and suspended the sentence for 30 days to appeal in a higher court. Following his conviction, Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on March 24.
