Five Soldiers Martyred As Terrorists Ambush Army Vehicle In J&K’s Poonch
Jammu & Kashmir: An Army truck was fired on by terrorists in Poonch, killing five soldiers
20-04-2023 : In a tragic incident in the Poonch region of Jammu and Kashmir, five soldiers were martyred as terrorists ambushed an Indian Army vehicle on Thursday afternoon. According to a statement from the Army Headquarters, Northern Command, the attack occurred at around 3 p.m. when the Army truck, which belonged to the Rashtriya Rifles Unit engaged in counter-terrorism operations, was fired upon by suspected terrorists.
The soldiers who lost their lives in the ambush were members of the Rashtriya Rifles Unit, a renowned force known for its expertise in anti-terror operations. Another soldier was critically injured in the attack and was immediately evacuated to the Army Hospital in Rajouri for medical treatment. The incident has left the entire Army community and the nation in grief and shock.
Initially, it was reported that the truck caught fire due to a lightning strike, but later investigations revealed that the fire was most likely caused by terrorists using grenades. The terrorists took advantage of the heavy rains and low visibility in the area to carry out the ambush, which resulted in the truck catching fire and causing severe damage.
Army Chief General Manoj Pande immediately informed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh about the attack. Singh expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers, stating on Twitter, “Anguished by the tragedy in Poonch District (J&K), where the Indian Army has lost its brave soldiers after a truck caught fire. My thoughts are with the grieving families at this awful time.” The nation stands united in honoring the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers in the line of duty.
Following the incident, army and police troops swiftly responded to the scene, which is located approximately 90 miles from Poonch. The area has been cordoned off, and a thorough investigation is underway to apprehend the terrorists responsible for the heinous act. Traffic from Bhimber Gali to Surankote has been temporarily suspended, and commuters have been advised to take alternate routes for their safety.
Intelligence sources have revealed that the Sangiot area, where the ambush occurred, has been a known transit route for Pakistani terrorists. This incident once again highlights the persistent threat of terrorism in the region and the unwavering determination of the Indian Army to protect the nation from such acts of violence.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time that the region has witnessed such a tragic incident. Last year, a bus carrying pilgrims to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district caught fire, resulting in the loss of four lives and injuries to 22 individuals. An unknown terror organization called ‘Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Fighters’ had claimed responsibility for the incident, stating that it was an ‘IED detonation’ triggered by one of its ‘special squads.’ Such incidents serve as a stark reminder of the constant threats faced by the security forces and civilians in the region.
The sacrifices made by the brave soldiers in defending the nation against terrorism are immeasurable. The Indian Army has always displayed unparalleled courage and valor in the face of adversity, and the nation stands in solidarity with them during this difficult time. The government and security forces remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the region and taking appropriate measures to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the soil of India.
