Chief Justice of India Visits Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and Bhairon Baba Temple

29-06-2023 : The Chief Justice of India (CJI), Dr Justice D Y Chandrachud, embarked on a visit to the revered Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji holy cave shrine and paid his respects at the sanctum sanctorum. His arrival at Katra, the base camp for the pilgrimage, was marked by a warm reception led by Anshul Garg, Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. The CJI was accompanied by the Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh High Court, adding to the significance of the visit.

During the reception, the CEO provided an overview of the ongoing initiatives undertaken by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, operating under the chairmanship of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, for the purpose of enhancing and expanding the infrastructure to cater to the growing number of pilgrims. These initiatives aim to ensure a comfortable and convenient pilgrimage experience for the increasing influx of devotees visiting the holy shrine.

The Chief Justice of India expressed his appreciation for the efforts being made by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in the welfare and facilitation of the pilgrims. Recognizing the importance of providing necessary amenities and services to pilgrims, he commended the board’s endeavors to make the pilgrimage hassle-free and accessible to all devotees.

After paying obeisance at the holy cave shrine, the CJI proceeded to Bhairon Ghati, another significant religious site associated with the pilgrimage, to offer his prayers at the Bhairon Baba Temple. This visit holds special significance as it marks the first pilgrimage of Justice Chandrachud to the holy shrine after assuming the role of Chief Justice of India.

The pilgrimage to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji holy cave shrine is a highly revered and popular religious journey for devotees from across India and around the world. The shrine is located in the Trikuta Mountains of Jammu and Kashmir and is dedicated to Goddess Vaishno Devi. Pilgrims undertake a rigorous trek to reach the cave shrine, where they seek the blessings of the goddess.
