29-07-2023 : Amazon India has announced the launch of its first-ever ‘floating space’ store on the renowned Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. The ‘I Have Space’ store will cater to customers residing on and around Dal Lake and Nigeen Lake, providing reliable and convenient delivery experiences. The initiative aims to empower small businesses by offering additional earning opportunities.
The store is operated by a Srinagar-based individual who owns and operates a houseboat named ‘Selec Town.’ This collaboration will address the challenges faced by customers who live and conduct businesses on Dal Lake, a popular tourist spot. Previously, they had to rely on traditional shikaras or nearby shops for package collection. Now, the ‘I Have Space’ partner will deliver packages daily, ensuring safe and timely deliveries to the doorstep of their houseboats.
The move is part of Amazon India’s commitment to enhancing its delivery network and offering efficient services to customers. The ‘I Have Space’ program, launched in 2015, partners with local stores and businesses within a specific radius to facilitate last-mile deliveries, enabling them to earn additional income. With thousands of partners across various towns and cities in India, the program has significantly improved last-mile delivery capabilities.
By venturing into the unique and challenging terrain of Dal Lake, Amazon is demonstrating its commitment to innovation and inclusivity in the e-commerce industry. The ‘floating space’ store on Dal Lake marks a significant milestone in Amazon’s mission to expand its reach and provide reliable services even in unconventional locations. The company aims to create meaningful opportunities for individuals and foster community empowerment through such initiatives. As Amazon continues to evolve and adapt, it reaffirms its dedication to customer satisfaction and progress in the Indian market.
