Durga Dass's Move from BJP to Congress: A Strategic Maneuver Shaping the Political Landscape of Kathua, Jammu
Jammu, 26-03-2024 : In a notable shift in the political landscape, Durga Dass, a former MLA representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, has officially joined the Congress party. This decision, confirmed by a spokesperson from the Congress, marks a significant transition for Dass, who previously secured victory in the Assembly polls as a BJP candidate from the Hiranagar constituency in Kathua.
Accompanying Durga Dass in his move to the Congress is Mohammad Iqbal Dar, a leader from the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP). The duo made their allegiance known during a formal ceremony, underlining their commitment to the Congress party’s principles and objectives.
Welcoming the new members into the Congress fold were key figures including Bharatsinh Solanki, who serves as the Congress in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Yadav, an All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary, and Vikar Rasool Wani, president of the Pradesh Congress Committee. Additionally, the party’s designated candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Choudhary Lal Singh and Raman Bhalla, extended their support and greetings to Durga Dass and Mohammad Iqbal Dar.
Bharatsinh Solanki seized the opportunity to unveil the “Paanch Nyay” (five justices) framework of the Congress, emphasizing the party’s unwavering commitment to ensuring justice and equality for all segments of society. Solanki criticized the promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, labeling them as empty rhetoric, while affirming the Congress’s track record of delivering on its electoral pledges.
Highlighting the significance of former party chief Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Solanki underscored the Congress’s dedication to understanding the aspirations and grievances of the common people. He emphasized the Congress’s nomination of exemplary candidates who are dedicated to serving the interests of the populace and advocating for their concerns in Parliament.
Expressing concern over the perceived erosion of identity, rights, and autonomy in Jammu and Kashmir under the Modi administration, Solanki called upon the people of the region to hold the BJP accountable. He urged them to strive for a better future, including the restoration of statehood and the protection of their fundamental rights.
Solanki reaffirmed the Congress’s determination to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections vigorously, rallying support from the people alongside coalition partners from the INDIA bloc and other like-minded parties. Together, they aim to secure victory and usher in positive change for the region, promising a brighter and more inclusive future for all.
