Tariq Karra Slams BJP’s ‘Transformation’ Claims, Calls J&K a Political Experiment Under Saffron Rule
JAMMU, Sept 22: Tariq Hameed Karra, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), sharply criticized the BJP’s approach to Jammu and Kashmir, refuting the party’s claims of a positive transformation in the region. Karra stated that while there has indeed been a transformation, it is far from what the BJP touts. According to him, Jammu and Kashmir, once a vibrant hub for tourism and cultural integration, has now been reduced to what he termed an “experiment laboratory” under the BJP’s policies.
Karra condemned the BJP’s governance, asserting that their so-called “transformation” has only led to increased chaos and suffering for the common people. “What they call transformation is, in reality, a period of turmoil and uncertainty. The policies they implemented have alienated the local population and disrupted the peace and stability that once defined the region,” Karra said.
Highlighting the Congress party’s past achievements, Karra noted that, during its tenure up to 2014, the government focused on practical and diplomatic measures to restore and maintain peace in Jammu and Kashmir without compromising the dignity of its people. “We never treated the citizens like experimental subjects or turned the region into a laboratory for political experiments. Our focus was always on ensuring peace, progress, and the well-being of the people,” Karra remarked.
He went on to urge the BJP to put the interests of Jammu and Kashmir above party politics, calling for a more people-centric approach in the region. “At this critical juncture, the BJP should recognize the gravity of the situation. Instead of exploiting the political environment for their gains, they should focus on addressing the genuine needs and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Karra stated.
Karra also cautioned the BJP against using the upcoming elections to further its own agenda, emphasizing that the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve better than to be treated as political pawns. “The people are not just votes to be won; they are citizens with real concerns and needs. The BJP must act responsibly and put the UT’s interests first,” he added.
