Congress- NC will get comfortable majority – JKPCC Chief Tariq Hameed Karra

Karra Challenges BJP's Influence, Vows to Keep Jammu and Kashmir's Future in the Hands of Congress-NC Coalition

Jammu, October 6, 2024:  Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra expressed strong confidence that the Congress-National Conference (NC) coalition will achieve a comfortable majority in the upcoming elections, asserting that the final results will surpass the figures predicted in the recent exit polls.

Karra’s remarks came after a significant three-and-a-half-hour meeting with party candidates from the Jammu region. During the meeting, attendees engaged in detailed discussions regarding the campaign process, the role of the administration, and the coalition’s prospects, along with strategies for the days leading up to the elections.

Participants conveyed optimism about the coalition’s winning potential, asserting that the Congress-NC alliance would secure a majority to form the next government. The candidates also raised concerns about the apparent bias of the police and administration, alleging that they had favored ruling party candidates and had failed to address electoral malpractices. This perceived inaction by the administration was met with alarm, with many expressing the expectation that authorities should maintain impartiality during the electoral process.

Following the meeting, Karra reaffirmed his belief that the coalition’s numbers would exceed those projected in the exit polls, asserting that both Congress and NC would emerge with significantly favorable results. Speaking to a group of journalists outside the Radisson Hotel, he stated, “The exit polls align with our expectations, but we anticipate even better outcomes.”

Karra emphasized the coalition’s aim to secure a comfortable majority, declaring that the core objective of forming this alliance would be successfully realized. He further added that the doors remain open for like-minded parties and individuals who share the goal of keeping the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of power.

Addressing concerns over the nomination of five MLAs by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) and their potential involvement in government formation, Karra characterized this action as a direct affront to democracy and a manipulation of electoral results. “This would amount to rigging the poll results and undermining the people’s mandate. The Congress will fiercely oppose this and will not allow the BJP to succeed in its attempts,” he asserted.

Karra also highlighted the importance of the Urban Local Body (ULB) and Panchayat elections, emphasizing that prioritizing these elections will be a key focus for the newly elected government. He insisted that the final decision regarding these matters should be left to the elected representatives.
