Sajad Gani Lone Advocates for Equal Bail Treatment for Ordinary Accused Following Engineer Rashid’s Case

Srinagar, Oct 15: People’s Conference President Sajad Gani Lone has called on the judiciary to extend the same compassion shown to prominent individuals, such as Baramulla Lok Sabha member Sheikh Abdul Rashid, to ordinary accused persons seeking bail. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Lone expressed his deep concern for those less fortunate, urging the courts to demonstrate magnanimity in granting bail to all accused individuals.

“My heartfelt request to the courts in Delhi is to apply the same standards of fairness in extending bail to ordinary individuals as you have done for a VIP accused like a serving MP,” Lone emphasized. His remarks came after a Delhi court granted interim bail to Engineer Rashid, who is facing allegations in a terror-funding case, allowing him to remain free until October 28.

Lone highlighted the disparities in the justice system, pointing out that two individuals had tragically lost their lives while incarcerated under similar allegations, with no bail being granted to them. “Many of the other accused are elderly and suffering from multiple health issues. They, too, require some relief,” he noted.
