Maharaja Hari Singh had signed the Instrument of Accession on October 26, 1947. The accession was accepted by Lord Mountbatten, the then Governor-General of India in the morning hours of October 27, 1947. Singh said that Accession Day is a very important day in the history of J&K and the residents of J&K should celebrate the day with great enthusiasm. He said that the first battalion of the Indian Army landed at the Srinagar Airport at about 8.30 A.M. It was the first Sikh Battalion of the Indian Army which dashed the Pakistani Army from across Baramulla District which was held for three days by the Dogra Army under the leadership of Brig. Rajinder Singh. Brig. Rajinder Singh was martyred by Pakistani raiders on October 26, 1947.
