Afghan FM Muttaqi Visits India for Week-Long Talks on Bilateral and Regional Cooperation
Talks to focus on diplomacy, humanitarian aid, and infrastructure cooperation
Afghanistan, Oct 09 : Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, arrived in New Delhi on Thursday for a week long official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and discussing regional issues. The visit will continue until October 16.
Welcoming the Afghan FM, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on X, “We look forward to engaging discussions with him on bilateral relations and regional issues.”
During his stay, Muttaqi is expected to meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The discussions are likely to focus on humanitarian assistance, infrastructure development, and broader regional cooperation.
Muttaqi’s visit was initially delayed due to a travel ban exemption requirement from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Last week, the UNSC granted the exemption, allowing the Afghan FM to travel to India. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the development, highlighting ongoing conversations between India and the Afghan interim government.
New Delhi is expected to review its humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, including earthquake relief recently delivered to Kunar province and aid sent via Chabahar port.
The visit follows a series of diplomatic engagements between India and the Taliban-led Afghan administration, including earlier meetings between Afghan officials and India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Recent visits by Afghan ministers and officials have underscored the growing cooperation in healthcare, infrastructure, and development sectors.
