Central Board of Secondary Education introduces future ready curriculum for Classes 3–8
India, Apr 11 : In a major step toward modernizing school education, the Central Board of Secondary Education has mandated the integration of Computational Thinking (CT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for students from Classes 3 to 8, beginning the 2026–27 academic session. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and aims to prepare students for a technology driven future.
The new curriculum is designed to go beyond traditional rote learning by focusing on analytical thinking, logical reasoning, and real world problem solving skills. Students will be introduced to basic coding concepts, algorithmic thinking, and ethical dimensions of AI, enabling them to understand both the potential and risks associated with emerging technologies.
To support the rollout, CBSE has planned structured teacher training programs, including district-level deliberations, expert sessions, and regional workshops. These initiatives aim to equip educators with the tools needed to effectively deliver AI-based education in classrooms.
Education experts have welcomed the move, stating that early exposure to such technologies can significantly enhance creativity and innovation among students. However, concerns remain regarding infrastructure gaps in rural schools and the need for adequate digital resources to ensure equitable implementation.
