Cooperatives to lead Mizoram’s digital leap as Amit Sharma unveils e-District plan for Mamit
Mamit (Mizoram), May 25, 2025: In a significant push to strengthen digital governance and the cooperative movement, Shri Amit Sharma, Secretary to the Government of Mizoram for Information & Communications Technology (ICT) and Cooperation Departments, visited the Aspirational District of Mamit. The visit, aligned with the observance of the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2025, marked a milestone as Sharma resolved to make Mamit the first e-District in Mizoram with cooperatives playing a pivotal role in this transformation.
A high-level meeting chaired by Secretary Amit Sharma was convened at Taitesena Buk, DC Office, Mamit. The meeting, hosted by Deputy Commissioner Shri K. Laltlawmlova, saw the participation of senior officials from the district administration, Superintendent of Police Shri Pukhraj Kamal, heads of government departments, the Manager of the State Cooperative Bank, and representatives of Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS).
Additional Deputy Commissioner Ms. Carolyn L.B. Khiangte presented an administrative and ICT status overview, while District Cooperative Officer Shri Rothangliana Bawitlung shared insights on the growth and challenges of the cooperative sector.
Drawing from his experience as former IT Secretary of the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma emphasized the need to strengthen Common Service Centres (CSCs) and improve mobile connectivity. He proposed expanding the role of Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative Societies (MPACS) to include CSCs and announced that Mamit would work toward becoming Mizoram’s first official e-District, with the district administration soon submitting a formal proposal.
Addressing stakeholders, Sharma urged all cooperative entities to exceed past benchmarks during IYC 2025, highlighting the motto “prosperity through cooperation.” He advocated for innovation, better funding channels, and wider market access while encouraging greater utilization of the State Cooperative Bank and National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
He praised the success of Darlak Agri and Allied Services Cooperative Society Ltd., which won the first prize in the Chief Minister Bana Kaih Innovation Challenge, calling it a model to replicate. He also laid emphasis on promoting dairy cooperatives to spark a “White Revolution 2.0” led by cooperatives in Mamit.
Shri Amit Sharma also conducted a field visit to several successful cooperative societies in the district alongside DC Mamit, SP Mamit, and other senior officials. He assured greater financial and marketing support to enable production expansion during the IYC 2025 and reiterated the government’s commitment to making Mamit a model of cooperative-driven digital development.
