Apple Breaks Into India’s Top 5 Smartphone Brands, Driven by iPhone 17 Craze

Apple Breaks Into India’s Top 5 Smartphone Brands, Powered by iPhone 17 Frenzy

Mumbai, Nov 6 : Apple’s focus on India is paying off as the iPhone maker has broken into the country’s top five smartphone brands, driven by strong demand for the iPhone 17 and other recent models. Over the past few quarters, Apple’s presence in India has steadily grown, but the recent surge in sales has pushed it past several established competitors.

According to a new Counterpoint Research report, India’s festive season played a major role in fueling Apple’s momentum. Scenes of long queues outside Apple Stores and even minor scuffles among buyers reflected the brand’s growing dominance in the premium smartphone market.

Apple’s Top 5 Finish Marks a New Milestone

Indian consumers are now willing to spend more on high quality devices, a shift that perfectly aligns with Apple’s premium positioning. Any phone priced above ₹30,000 is considered a premium smartphone in India  and that entire category is dominated by Apple’s iPhone lineup.

Despite high price tags, demand continues to soar. Buyers are increasingly opting for financing options to get their hands on the latest iPhone 17 or 17 Pro models. Reports even surfaced of customers paying above retail price for specific variants like the iPhone 17 Pro Max orange edition, underscoring the brand’s aspirational appeal.

Apple’s Growing Dependence on India

Apple’s India strategy goes beyond just sales. The company has ramped up local manufacturing and expanded its retail footprint with two new exclusive Apple Stores this year. India has become an essential part of Apple’s global growth plan  both as a production hub and a fast-expanding consumer market.

While Apple still trails leaders like Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi, its upward trajectory signals that the gap may soon narrow. With rising purchasing power and a growing appetite for premium technology, Apple is well positioned to strengthen its market share and challenge long-time leaders in the years ahead.
