AUS vs IND: Kohli, Iyer, Gill Miss Optional Nets Ahead of Second ODI

Kohli, Iyer, and Gill Sit Out Optional Nets; Rohit Sharma Leads India’s Batting Practice Ahead of 2nd ODI

India, Oct 22 : Team India’s senior players Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and captain Shubman Gill skipped the optional training session ahead of the second ODI against Australia at Adelaide Oval on Thursday. Fans who had gathered to watch India’s top stars in action got to see only Rohit Sharma from the top-order lineup practice in the nets.

Rohit focused on timing during a 15–20 minute net session, facing casual throwdowns and getting some essential knock-ins ahead of the match. KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel also batted, with Rahul simultaneously working on wicketkeeping drills.

The three senior players had a tough outing in the first ODI: Kohli was dismissed for an eight ball duck, Gill managed just 10 runs off 18 balls, and Iyer scored 11 runs from 24 deliveries in the rain-affected match.

Bowling remained a major focus in the session, with pace spearhead Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna practicing hitting the good length areas, under the watchful guidance of bowling coach Morne Morkel. Nitish Kumar Reddy, after a promising debut in Perth, concentrated on bowling, while Kuldeep Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal continued their respective net sessions.

The optional net practice highlighted India’s strategy of letting senior batters rest while fine-tuning bowling and fielding ahead of the second ODI.
