Ayushmann Khurrana to Revive Salman Khan’s Iconic ‘Prem’ in Sooraj Barjatya’s Next Family Drama
The versatile actor gears up to bring a contemporary touch to Sooraj Barjatya’s beloved ‘Prem’, balancing nostalgia with modern sensibilities.
Mumbai, Nov 3 : For more than three decades, the name Prem has been synonymous with Salman Khan the embodiment of innocence, love, and family values in Sooraj Barjatya’s timeless hits like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, and Hum Saath Saath Hain. Now, a new era begins as Ayushmann Khurrana steps into the beloved character’s shoes in Barjatya’s upcoming family entertainer.
Speaking to Moneycontrol, Ayushmann shared his excitement and the weight of responsibility that comes with the role. “Big shoes to fill,” he admitted with a smile. “But Sooraj sir and I met somewhere in the middle. He’s adapted the story to suit my sensibilities, and I get to bring my own flavor to Prem. It’s a beautiful balance.”
The actor emphasized that his version of Prem won’t be a replica of Salman’s portrayal. Instead, audiences can expect a modern interpretation a man grounded in emotion, family, and values, but relatable to today’s world. “It’s a classic family entertainer at heart,” Ayushmann said, “but with a contemporary layer that reflects how relationships have evolved. That’s what makes it really exciting.”
Coming off the success of his horror comedy Thamma, Ayushmann is on a career high with five ₹100-crore films to his credit. He’s now keen to explore diverse genres while staying true to his storytelling roots.
His packed schedule includes a Holi release titled Pati Patni Aur Woh 2, followed by a quirky Sikhya Dharma collaboration, before he begins work on Sooraj Barjatya’s much-anticipated family saga next year.
With this fresh reinvention of Prem, Ayushmann Khurrana is set to bridge generations bringing back the charm of old school romance while making it resonate with today’s audiences.
