Bacchu Don killed, four cops injured during escape en route from Punjab to Jammu

Jammu, April 22: A wanted criminal, identified as Mushtaq Ali alias Raj Ali alias Bacchu Don, died during a scuffle with police personnel while allegedly attempting to escape from custody near Jammu. The incident occurred on Monday night as police were transporting the accused from Punjab to Jammu, following his arrest in Amritsar.

According to an official police spokesperson, a team of Jammu Police, with assistance from Punjab Police, had successfully apprehended Ali and his associate from the Baba Batala area of Amritsar. Both individuals were reportedly involved in multiple criminal cases across the districts of Jammu, Kathua, and Samba.

While en route to Jammu, the accused requested a halt, citing the need to relieve himself from the call of nature. As per the statement, when the police stopped and brought the duo out of the vehicle, they launched a sudden and violent attack on the escorting officers in a bid to escape. During the confrontation, the accused attempted to snatch the service weapons of the policemen.

In the ensuing scuffle, Mushtaq Ali reportedly fell on the road and sustained critical injuries. Four police personnel also suffered minor injuries while trying to subdue the accused and prevent his escape.

Ali was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu for treatment, but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending doctors.

The police have formally requested the Jammu District Magistrate to constitute a board of doctors to conduct a post-mortem examination of the deceased to ascertain the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, all mandatory legal protocols have been initiated.

The spokesperson added that a formal case under relevant sections of law has been registered at the Bishnah Police Station, and further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
