Bangladesh Horror: Hindu Teacher’s Home Torched Amid Surge in Minority Attacks

Rising Violence Against Minorities in Bangladesh Sparks Alarm; Hindu Communities Targeted

Bangladesh, Jan 16 : A Hindu schoolteacher’s home was set ablaze in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet district, Bangladesh, as attacks on minority communities continue to escalate across the country. The victim, Birendra Kumar Dey, and his family narrowly escaped the fire, which quickly engulfed their house, spreading fear among neighbors.

A video of the incident circulated widely on social media, showing flames consuming the home as residents rushed to help the family. Local media reports stated that Islamist groups allegedly carried out the attack in Bahor village of Nandirgaon union under Gowainghat upazila.

This incident comes amid a series of violent attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. Earlier this week, 27-year-old auto-rickshaw driver Samir Das was hacked to death in Daganbhuiyan upazila of Feni district. His body was found in a crop field in Jagatpur village after he went missing on Sunday evening, according to police and local reports.

These events mark the ninth attack on Hindu communities in just 24 days, highlighting a disturbing surge in targeted violence. India has expressed deep concern over the recurring assaults on minorities, stating on January 9 that it continues to monitor the situation closely and hopes the Bangladeshi authorities address such acts decisively.

Under the current interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, minority communities, particularly Hindus, have faced mounting threats and violence, drawing condemnation from human rights organisations and international observers.
