BJP Set To Remain India’s Dominant Political Force For Two More Decades, Says Pollster Pradeep Gupta

Axis My India chief links ruling party’s future success to governance performance and rising public expectations

NEW DELHI, May 21: Poll strategist and Axis My India chairman Pradeep Gupta has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s current era of political strength could continue for at least another 20 years if its governance record remains strong and effective.

Speaking in an interview, Gupta compared the BJP’s present position with the long period of dominance once enjoyed by the Indian National Congress after Independence. He said Indian politics often moves in long political cycles where one major party remains the central force for decades.

According to Gupta, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has built a strong political base since coming to power in 2014, and its continued success will largely depend on maintaining high governance standards and meeting public expectations.

He explained that once a party receives a massive electoral mandate, voters also expect better delivery and stronger performance from the government. Gupta stated that as long as the BJP avoids weak governance and continues to perform effectively, it is likely to remain electorally successful while opposition parties may continue to struggle.

The poll analyst also said the Congress is still dealing with what he described as legacy issues linked to perceptions of past governance failures. In his assessment, rebuilding public trust nationwide could take several more years for the opposition party.

Gupta suggested that by the time of the 2029 general elections, the Congress would have spent nearly 15 years outside power at the Centre, making political recovery a gradual process.

At the same time, he cautioned that political dominance brings increasing pressure and accountability. He noted that when any political party reaches significant heights, public expectations naturally rise and sustaining that level becomes more challenging over time.

The remarks come amid continuing political discussions over the future direction of Indian politics, governance performance and the evolving balance between the ruling alliance and opposition parties ahead of upcoming state and national elections.
