BJP’s Rise From ‘Taboo’ to Dominance in J&K: Dr. Jitendra Singh Highlights Party’s Transformation Under PM Modi
NEW DELHI, Oct 15 : Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, speaking at a media conclave organized by national TV channel Bharat24, described the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) remarkable transformation in Jammu and Kashmir, where it went from being considered a “taboo” to achieving the highest vote share in the region’s recent Assembly elections. He emphasized that the party’s success is the culmination of an incredible journey, largely credited to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and reforms over the past decade.
Dr. Singh attributed this unprecedented rise to the new work culture and democratic practices introduced by PM Modi, which focused on extending development and welfare schemes to every citizen, regardless of their caste, creed, or religion. He highlighted that this approach was a significant departure from the vote bank politics traditionally practiced by the Congress Party. “Modi’s governance mantra of ‘justice to all, appeasement to none’ has redefined the political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir,” he remarked.
Citing an example, Dr. Singh referenced the PM Awas Yojana, which has transformed countless kutcha houses into pucca homes, including in communities that had historically not supported the BJP due to misinformation spread by rival parties. He pointed out that these communities are now experiencing a shift in perception as they witness the fairness and inclusiveness of BJP’s policies under Modi’s leadership.
Reflecting on the past, Dr. Singh recalled how there was once a time when election nominations in the region were manipulated to favor ruling party candidates, with other nominations rejected to ensure uncontested wins. He also recounted the decades-long period of militancy, where elections were conducted under the threat of violence, leading to low voter turnout rates of 8% to 10%, orchestrated by a few families and individuals to maintain their hold on power. He noted that the present era marks the mainstreaming of democracy in Jammu and Kashmir, with elections now conducted with the same enthusiasm and festivity as anywhere else in India.
Dr. Singh also commented on the recent election results in Haryana, stating that the Congress Party remains stuck in outdated tactics while voters have moved on, becoming more informed and discerning. He criticized Congress for attempting to use narratives centered around “Kisan, Pahalwan, and Samvidhan” to garner support, failing to recognize the evolving awareness and aspirations of the electorate. “The results in Haryana validate the approach of commitment, conviction, and dedication championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he concluded.
