China Accelerates AI Film Industry as Cities Race to Attract Startups
Local governments and industrial parks are competing to attract AI filmmaking businesses as the technology transforms video production.
China, Sep 25 : China is witnessing a growing push to turn artificial intelligence generated video into a major commercial industry, with cities and industrial parks competing to attract AI filmmaking companies and startups.
Shenzhen has emerged as an important centre for the country’s AI film sector, supported by its large technology ecosystem. AI filmmaker Zhu Zhili, who established an artificial intelligence film studio in the city, said he has received approaches from officials and industrial parks across China seeking to attract his business.
The growing interest reflects the rapid development of generative AI tools capable of producing video content from text and other digital inputs. Filmmakers and production companies are increasingly exploring these technologies to reduce production requirements and create new forms of visual content.
Chinese cities see the emerging sector as an opportunity to combine AI development with the country’s established film, animation and technology industries. Local authorities are therefore seeking companies that can build businesses around AI-assisted production and content creation.
The expansion of AI-generated video is also changing the way creative industries view artificial intelligence. Instead of being used only for individual production tasks, AI tools are increasingly being developed into complete workflows covering concept development, visual creation and post-production.
The competition among Chinese cities demonstrates the broader economic significance being attached to generative AI. Local governments are seeking to establish technology clusters that can attract investment, skilled workers and new businesses around rapidly developing AI applications.
The development could eventually influence the global entertainment industry as AI-generated films and video content become more commercially viable. China is positioning itself to build an ecosystem around the technology while companies experiment with new ways to combine artificial intelligence and filmmaking.
