CJP Protest Turns Tense Near Parliament, Police Use Lathicharge After Barricade Breach Attempt
Security forces maintain strict vigil in New Delhi after CJP demonstrators allegedly tried to cross barricades during a march towards Parliament, leading to a brief confrontation.
New Delhi, July 20: A protest march organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) near Parliament Street witnessed a tense situation on Monday after demonstrators allegedly attempted to move beyond security barricades placed in the high-security area.
According to sources, the situation escalated around 11:25 am when a group of protesters tried to push through multiple layers of barricading while moving towards Parliament. Security personnel deployed at the location intervened to prevent the demonstrators from entering the restricted zone.
Brief Confrontation Between Protesters and Security Personnel
The attempt to cross the barricades resulted in a brief face off between protesters and police personnel. Officials said the situation became tense for a short period, with minor injuries reported among some demonstrators and security staff during the confrontation.
Sources said that around 10 to 15 protesters were detained following the incident as authorities worked to bring the situation under control.
Heavy Security Deployment Around Parliament Area
Ahead of the march, authorities had deployed a large number of security personnel across Parliament Street and nearby areas to maintain law and order.
Police teams, including uniformed officers and personnel in plain clothes, were stationed at key locations to monitor the movement of protesters and prevent any attempt to enter restricted areas around Parliament.
The high-security arrangements were put in place considering the sensitive nature of the location and the possibility of crowd movement towards Parliament premises.
Police Deny Use of Force on Demonstrators
Meanwhile, New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Sharma clarified that Delhi Police personnel had not used force against protesters.
The officer stated that no police personnel had resorted to any action involving force so far, while maintaining that security arrangements were focused on ensuring peaceful management of the demonstration.
Authorities Continue Monitoring Situation
Officials continued to monitor developments in the area following the incident. Security agencies remained deployed around Parliament Street to ensure that the protest remained peaceful and that movement in the restricted zone was not disrupted.
The incident comes amid heightened security measures in central Delhi, where authorities regularly regulate demonstrations due to the presence of important government institutions and restricted areas.
