Competitive Exam Reforms Proposed to Reduce Student Stress

Experts recommend flexible evaluation systems and mental health support measures.

NEW DELHI, May 8: Education policymakers and mental health experts have proposed major reforms to India’s competitive examination system amid rising concerns about student stress and academic pressure.

Recommendations include introducing multiple testing opportunities, reducing syllabus overload and improving counselling services in schools and coaching centres.

Experts argued that excessive dependence on single high pressure examinations negatively affects student wellbeing and limits creativity.

The proposals were discussed during a national education consultation attended by academic leaders, psychologists and government representatives.

Several experts also advocated stronger career guidance programmes to help students explore diverse educational and professional pathways.

Authorities are expected to review the recommendations before finalising future examination policy reforms.
