PCC remembers Dr. Manmohan Singh on his death anniversary
Jammu, Dec. 26 : Floral tributes were paid to Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji on his first death anniversary, in a meeting held here today at PCC HQ Shaheedi Chowk Jammu.
PCC Working President Shri Raman Bhalla chaired the meeting which was attended by Ex-MLC I/C HQ Shri Ved Mahajan, Vijay Sharma, Sanjeev Panda, Neeraj Gupta, Kapil Singh, Rajvir Singh, Michael Wazir, Rakesh Sharma, Rajiv Saraf, Rajesh Sharma, Baldev Singh Wazir, Sohit Sharma, Vinay Sharma, Praveen Singh, Janak Raj Mehra(Prabhu), Manmohan Sharma, Mansukh Bali, Sumit Sharma and others.
While paying tributes Shri Bhalla said that we remember with deep respect the immense contribution of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh Ji to India’s nation-building, a transformative leader, who reshaped India’s economic path, expanded opportunities for millions, and helped lift countless people out of poverty. Born in 1932 in Gah, now in Pakistan, Manmohan Singh rose from a modest academic background to become a globally respected economist. His decade-long tenure as prime minister was marked by sustained economic growth, effective handling of the 2008 global financial crisis, the expansion of social safety nets, and a major breakthrough in foreign policy through the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Deal, which ended India’s nuclear isolation.
Bhalla also highlighted Singh’s commitment to a rights-based governance model, citing landmark legislations such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the Right to Information (RTI) Act, Right to education RTE Act and National Food Security Act (NFSA) as enduring symbols of his focus on social justice and accountability.
He said that Dr. Manmohan Sngh Ji had always given special attention towards the problems of Jammu and Kashmir. All major projects in existence today in J&K were sanctioned and works started during UPA I and UPA II Govt. led by Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji.
Bhalla said that Dr. Manmohan Sngh Govt. announced a comprehensive rehabilitation and development package for Kashmiri Pandits on April 2008. This was popularly known as the Prime Minister;s comprehensive economic package for kashmiri Migrants.
Echoing these sentiments, Shri Ved Mahajan and other speakers paid tributes to Singh’s personal values and moral stature. Reflecting on his long public career — which included serving as Governor of the Reserve Bank of India — they described him as a leader defined by dignity and courage.
“Dr Manmohan Singh ji believed deeply in equality and carried himself with resolution, courage, and grace. His simplicity, honesty, and unwavering dedication to the nation will continue to inspire generations.”
